What Apple expects from an icon.
One 1024 × 1024 file
The App Store icon is a single 1024 × 1024 pixel image. Xcode and the system make every smaller size from it, so details must still read at 40 pixels.
Opaque, with square corners
Give Apple a full square with no transparency. iOS applies the rounded mask itself; pre-rounded corners leave dark or white slivers around the edge.
No alpha channel
App Store Connect rejects an icon saved with an alpha channel even when every pixel is opaque. Export without alpha, or flatten the image first.
It has to win in search
Your icon sits beside your competitors' in every search result and chart. Compare it with the top apps in your category: stand out in colour and shape, but keep the category's cues.
