Checked against Apple's documentation on

  1. 0 / 30 characters · 30 left

Shown everywhere and weighted most in search. At least 2 characters.

  2. 0 / 30 characters · 30 left

Shown under the name in search results, and indexed for search.

  3. 0 / 100 bytes · 100 left

Counted in bytes, so letters like é or ü use two. Separate with commas, no spaces.

  4. 0 / 170 characters · 170 left

Above the description. You can change it without a new app version. Not indexed for search.

  5. 0 / 4,000 characters · 4,000 left

Only the first lines show before "more", so lead with the reason to download.

  6. 0 / 4,000 characters · 4,000 left

    Release notes for this version.

  7. 0 / 35 characters · 35 left

Shown on the App Store and in the purchase sheet.

  8. 0 / 55 characters · 55 left

One line on what the purchase gives.

How Apple counts your listing.

Name and subtitle: 30 each

Both are indexed for search and both show in search results, so they are the most valuable 60 characters you have. Don't repeat a word across them: one mention is enough for search.

Keywords: 100 bytes, not characters

Apple counts the keyword field in bytes. Plain letters take one byte, but é, ü or ß take two and most CJK characters three. Separate terms with commas and no spaces, and skip words already in your name or subtitle.

Promotional text isn't searched

The 170 characters above your description can change at any time without a new version, which makes them right for launches and offers. Apple doesn't use them for search ranking.

The description sells, it doesn't rank

On the App Store the description is not indexed for search, but people read its opening lines before tapping "more". On Google Play the full description is indexed, so keywords there matter.
