How Apple's App Store fee works.
30% is the standard rate
Apple keeps 30% of the price of a paid app or in-app purchase, after VAT or GST has been taken out. On a $9.99 US purchase that is $3.00, and you receive $6.99.
15% for most small developers
In the App Store Small Business Program the fee is 15% for developers who earned up to $1 million in proceeds in the previous calendar year. You have to enrol; if you pass $1 million, the standard rate applies for the rest of the year. How the program works.
Subscriptions drop to 15% after a year
For auto-renewing subscriptions the fee falls from 30% to 15% once a subscriber has paid for a full year, counted per subscriber. Small Business Program members pay 15% from the start.
Tax comes off first
Where prices include VAT or GST (most of Europe, the UK, Australia, Japan), Apple removes the tax and takes its fee from what is left. US prices exclude sales tax, so enter 0. Alternative terms in the EU and web purchase links in the US have different fees.
