What makes a keyword hard to rank for.
The apps already on top
Difficulty looks at the top 10 results: how many ratings they have (the biggest factor), how strong the top 3 are, how many put the phrase in their title, and whether any are new. A search held by apps with millions of ratings takes years to crack.
Popular searches are harder than they look
On a rarely searched phrase, a well-titled new app can outrank big apps that only rank by accident. On a popular one, Apple ranks by what people pick, so a big app counts in full even when its title doesn't match.
Brand searches don't count
When people search an app's name ("door dash", "chat gpt"), they want that app. The checker marks these as hard: ranking for someone else's name rarely brings installs.
Opportunity is the trade-off
Opportunity is high only when a keyword is both searched and winnable. Find more like it with the free ASO keyword tool, then fit them into your 100-character keyword field.
